Branches

A branch is comprised of Steelhead Society members who usually live within close proximity to each other, who meet regularly, and who work together as a group to tackle various issues that affect their local rivers and the steelhead and salmon that inhabit them.

Common branch initiatives often include: fundraising campaigns for habitat restoration, advocacy, or research projects; volunteer activities such as meetings with local, provincial, and/or federal government agencies or committees; and interaction with the general public to increase their awareness about the plight of steelhead and salmon in their community.

Northern Branch

The Northern Branch has turned over a new page to start fresh. It is comprised from the ashes of the old chapters, yet it is already engaged in battles against oil and gas pipelines, in stream electrical generating projects, transmission lines, as well as cut and run forestry practices. The North has been ear marked for massive resource extraction that can’t help but deleteriously affect fish habitat. The steelhead of the north and central coast have never needed staunch advocates more than they do now. The members of the Northern Branch of the Steelhead Society of British Columbia will continue to champion the cause of those magnificent fish.
